Col de la Madeleine

Twenty-eight kilometres at 6.2% from La Chambre to 2,000 m, one of the longest continuous climbs in the Alps, with no descent and only one real respite at Saint-François-Longchamp. The gradient is honest and unrelenting rather than savage, which over this distance is its own kind of hard. The Tour has crossed it since 1969.
