Col du Galibier

From Valloire the road climbs 18.1 km to 2,642 m, the second half above the treeline in the open bowl under the Grand Galibier. The gradient sits between 7 and 9% for most of the way and stiffens in the last 2 km after the tunnel entrance, where the road turns and climbs to the pass itself. It is usually reached over the Télégraphe from Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, which makes the whole ascent nearer 35 km, and the Tour has crossed it more often than any other pass.
