Passo dello Stelvio

The east side from Prato allo Stelvio, 24.3 km at 7.4%, and the road the Stelvio is famous for: forty-eight numbered hairpins, the last thirty of them stacked in view of one another on the final wall below the pass. The lower half runs up the valley through Trafoi at a manageable gradient; the upper half is where the numbers count down. At 2,758 m the pass is open only from late spring to autumn.
