The east side from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan, 17.2 km at 7.4%, through the ski station of La Mongie 4 km below the summit. The gradient is steadier than the average suggests until La Mongie, then the road climbs the open cirque above the resort with the pass in sight the whole way. Colder and more exposed than the west side, and the one the Tour usually finishes on when it finishes at the top.
