The Poggio is 3.7 km at 3.7% from the Via Aurelia to the village above Sanremo, a road that would be nothing in any other race. In the Milano-Sanremo it is the last climb of nearly 300 km, 6 km from the finish, and the descent off it into the town is where the race is won or lost. Part of the route since 1960.
